Re-Communicate

People are constantly trying to invent new ways of collecting and storing sound. I didn't want to collect and store sound,rather expose it, by trapping it in a visual aesthetic. I meticulously deconstructed a sound recording device and painstakingly labelled each element. I wanted to represent the complexity of sound. When I trapped the components in ice they remained suspended as a snapshot of a moment, which can now be continuously viewed, making the temporary permanent.

Stitched Communication.

27 seconds of conversation, transformed into a soundwave, which was then stitched onto paper and photographed mummifying the model in sound. Foundation 2008.

Stitch It.

I asked each volunteer to say a quote, which they felt summed them up, I recorded each soundbyte and then took a photograph. The soundbyte was then turned into a soundwave and stitched over the corresponding mouth, aesthetically representing each person uniquely with the use of line. The wall displays a selection of colour and cropping variations.

Braille VHS

A deconstructed VHS tape. An extract of the film script has been 'Brailled' onto the magnetic tape, creating an alternative interpretation of the medium.

Me in Words (large scale)

Extension of 'Me in Words' project, 20 times the size, thread was replaced by rope and hung from tree branches.

'Me In Words'

A one day project. A miniature scaled down version of myself in words, The thread represents the distance between my head and each body part. Each part of the body is represented by a word. Red thread represents an internal organ, and cream thread represents a part of the skeleton. Dimensions 20cm x 10cm x 10cm Cotton thread, paper, card.

Mapping With Sound

A one day project based around the word 'sound' The area of Oxford Road and 'The school of Art', is mapped using sound bars, representing the areas own personal sound track, including toilet flushes, apple bites, closing skips, footsteps, crowds, vending machines, printers, guillotines etc. The streets are mapped using Magnetic tape and buildings with masking tape, compass directions mean that the map is fully accurate despite it's unusual dimensions, the whole strip fits perfectly into a cassette case. (lining paper, magnetic tape, masking tape,tape case, ink)
